If you've been thinking about foster care for a while, the hardest part is often the first call. Not because it's complicated, but because you don't know what to expect. So here it is, start to finish.

It's a short phone call with a real person

When you book a free consultation on our website, you're scheduling a 15-minute phone call with Tina Worton, ALIGN's co-founder. Calls are available Monday through Friday. Tina calls you at the time you pick.

Most of the call is your questions

There's no script you need to follow and no test to pass. People usually ask things like:

• Could someone in my situation foster?

• What does licensing involve, and how long does it take?

• What kind of support would we have after a child moves in?

• What ages and needs does ALIGN place?

Tina may ask a little about your household and where you live so she can give you answers that actually fit.

Nobody signs anything

A consultation isn't an application. You can ask every question you have and decide this isn't the right season. That's a normal outcome, not a wasted call.

If you want to keep going

Tina will explain the next steps, including training, the home inspection and paperwork, and you'll have the same team walking you through them.

How to prepare

You don't need to prepare anything. If it helps, jot down the questions you've been sitting on, and if you share a home with a partner, invite them to listen in.
